The e-mail flood started out we caught you guys, we never did trust you. That kind of thing. I think it is a very interesting dynamic. I saw middle-aged women just throw their arms around Barack Obama, kiss him hard on the cheek and say, you know, I'm with you, good luck. And i think he feels it, too.Dana Milbank, The Washington Post:ABOARD THE STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS, Jan. 7 For the moment, at least, the John McCain of yore has returned. . . . Ladies and gentlemen, John McCain is back. Left for dead when his campaign ran out of cash last summer, he returned to his endless town hall meetings and freewheeling talks on his campaign bus . . . Revived along with McCain's spirits: A level of "straight talk" bordering on the masochistic. . . . Mac is Back . . . . Perhaps as important, McCain has learned a small degree of restraint.
Don't make debt a family affair
What's the right thing to do when your daughter asks you to co-sign on a credit card? It's a question I have been asked more than once. In the case of one reader, the daughter and her husband want to transfer a balance on a credit card with a higher interest rate to a card with zero percent interest for 18 months. The daughter promises she and her husband won't be late on the payments -- but they have a lot of debt. The daughter's husband is doing his internship as a doctor and has another year before he will make more money. I recently discussed this topic with a colleague while preparing to address a large gathering of women. Here are four things that women in particular should be aware of when it comes to credit: 1.) Credit and the glass ceiling are invisible barriers.
Senator Conrad hosts energy roundtable
The new energy bill signed into law last month represents enormous progress in boosting North Dakota's economy because of its strong support for renewable fuels produced in North Dakota and the Midwest, Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., said. BISMARCK We are in the sweet spot, he told a group of representatives from conventional and renewable energy industries Friday, pointing to a map showing a deep color in this region. Some provisions of Conrad's BOLD (breaking our long-term dependence) energy plan are in the bill, which he called an exciting beginning. He is disappointed that a tax incentive package for the bill was defeated in the Senate by one vote. It needed a 60-vote majority and received 59. It would have extended wind energy tax credits that make building and operating wind farms financially viable, the industry representatives said.
Russia LUKOIL sees net profit rising 7 pct in 2007
LUKOIL is expected to publish its financial results for the fourth quarter and the whole of 2007 before April. In 2006, LUKOIL's net profit rose by 16 percent, year-on-year, to $7.48 billion, but slightly missed analysts' forecasts. Net profit rose by 2 percent and 8 percent respectively in the third and second quarters of 2007, after it dropped unexpectedly by 23 percent in the first quarter. LUKOIL said that was the result of higher transportation tariffs and operating expenses. Alekperov said LUKOIL expected its hydrocarbons production growth to accelerate to 5 to 7 percent this year after a rise of 1.6 percent in 2007, when it produced 91.1 million tonnes (1.8 million barrels per day) of oil at its Russian deposits. The company also produced 5.5 million tonnes of oil outside Russia and 16.4 billion cubic metres of gas last year. Continued...
Bill Gates: 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show Keynote
I've used it to invite guests, keep track of who can come, and I'm really entertained by reading the very creative excuses from those who can't. I can also go back on this site, and everyone who came to the party can come back on this site, and we can share photos with everyone. There's only one problem in that I forgot to invite Bill. Easy fix, all I have to do, because I've logged on with my Windows Live ID, I don't have to remember everyone's e-mail, I don't have to reenter everyone's e-mail, because it's right here. Select Bill and send him a quick note - bring your snowboard. I also want to share a picture of our rendezvous spot and where we're going, and I know that picture is somewhere here in my computer. If you're like me, you know there's some picture somewhere on your computer, but sometimes it's kind of tricky to find the one you want.
